Saturday Sursee :: Looking for Spring

Don’t you love looking for spring?  The trees are blooming, the flowers are in full gorgeousness.  Everyday is a new day in our yard as everything wakes up from winter.  It is a wonderful reminder that God is alive and present and working.  Out of the dead brown comes the fresh green.

Easterblessings

Happy Easter!  Nothing better than the words of Charles Wesley to celebrate today!  I am singing this with you all today in my heart.  Click here if you missed yesterday’s post about The In Between Times…

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun’s eclipse is o’er, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail, the Lord of earth and Heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail, the resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains that He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
Now above the sky He’s King, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

The In Between Time :: The Day Before Easter

Spring flowers

The day before Easter.

The In Between time.

Christ’s work is finished.  We are waiting to celebrate.  What was that like when the disciples and friends of Jesus were waiting and waiting?

I am glad I know the end of the story.

Saturday Sursee :: Thank You Note Sursee

Just wanted to share with you this darling card that a gal made for me recently.  She works at the Dry Cleaner I use, and we chat and visit when I come in to drop off shirts.  I had given her a little Sursee and Christmas card this past year.  The first time I came in in January with my big bag of shirts, she handed me this precious card with a big smile and slight bow.

I opened it up and found the most darling thank you note that she had hand-made for me.

Thank you note Sursees

Love it.  So Creative. Thoughtful.  A Sursee thank you.  I was so honored that she had taken the time to make me this darling origami note.  I plan on framing it and displaying it in my home.

Made me think of all the thank you notes I made my boys write or that I have written.  Did those brighten the day of someone?  Did they save it?  Was it their Sursee that day?

When I write the notes, they don’t seem  like much at the time, but when the recipient opens it, I guarantee that it brightens their day.  It might be the only Sursee they receive that day.

I am not saying you have to go fold paper into an amazing thank you.  I am asking you to consider writing a thank you to someone in your life today.  Think through the people who have loved you well or served you well and maybe pop a note into the mail for them.  It is a Sursee that won’t go unnoticed.  And also a Sursee that will bless you as you write it.

Sursees Galore :: Smoked Paprika, Alstroemeria and Snow Days

There are a few things around here that I have been digging.  I few things I wondered if you knew about or would want to know.  I often think you gals already know about x or y but was reminded this week that sometimes, Sursee Gal just needs to share her Sursees and let the chips fall.  Some of you need to hear and learn and some need to be reminded about what they already knew.  None of this stuff today is particularly earth shaking, but it is fun and will bring a smile.  Two jobs of Sursees.

So first off, I love this spice.

Smoked Paprika Sursee

Smoked Paprika.  It is Paprika with Punch.  It has a smokey scent to it that makes everything taste like you spent hours smokin’ your dish in a big ‘ol metal cooker.  It is best used in small amounts.  I use it when the recipe calls for plain Paprika.  It is also good as part of a rub mixture for your meat.  Or use it to season your pork when you make Pulled Pork tacos.  It adds a yummy depth to whatever you got cooking.  I found this one at Target.

Next Sursee– Alstroemeria- the Flower of all Flowers.

Alstroemeria Sursee

I love this flower.  I just buy it at the grocery store.  The first time I ever heard about it was when I was picking out flowers from this hipster florist I used when I got married.  She just brought out buckets and buckets of flowers and let me pick and build my wedding bouquet.  I used these and other flowers and I have always loved them since.  The best thing about these is they last forever. And  I mean 4 Evah! Which is great because then you have a Sursee that brightens your counter or bathroom for more than a week.  They also come in so many gorgeous shades. There is no really strong perfume smell with these which is nice.  Get some today, gal.

Last Sursee is a Snow Day.

We have had several of those these past two weeks and they are like little magical gifts.

Snow Day Sursee

They look beautiful.  You get to slow down and savor the morning.  Your sweetie gets to stay home.  When we had kids at home, they got to stay home.  I get a fire.  And cocoa and marshmallows.  And soup.  And a fun little day of staying in that I wasn’t planning. A day with possibilities.  Almost like an extra day in the month.  A day for adventures or movies or book reading.  AHHHH, I love ’em.

Snow Days are the ultimate Sursee because you have absolutely no control over when it comes, if ever.  A magical surprise when you  wake up and see the yard blanketed in white frosting.  I love the gift of a snow day.

What is your favorite new spice?  Or flower that you splurge and buy for yourself?  Or  the best way to celebrate a snow day?  Do tell.

Saturday Sursee :: An Easy To-Do List That Moves

To Do List Magic 2

A friend of mine shared how she bought a little composition notebook and is keeping her to-do list in it.

Whatever she doesn’t get done today,  she moves to tomorrow.

No worries.  Just move it to the next day.

I like doing this too, because I have found that when I write it down, I get it out of my brain and free up more space to think and dream. And, I don’t have to wrestle with trying to remember everything I need to do.  I just write it down.  And if I don’t get to it today, I move it to tomorrow. Simple.  Keeps me moving forward.

To Do List Magic

I personally have found I enjoy a book like the one above that can open and lie flat.  You get to decide what works best for you.

The Sursee for you is: Don’t be afraid of a to-do list. Don’t be afraid to move something down to the next day.

We are looking for progress not perfection, gals.

An Easy Recipe for Today :: Coconut-Black Bean Rice

What to serve with your chicken?  Sometime we just need an easy recipe for a side dish.  This is it, gals. This rice recipe will be a yummy edition to your repertoire.  It came with an easy chicken recipe, but I like the idea of making the rice with any entree- Chicken, Pork, Beef.

The coconut milk adds a richness and silkiness, but not overtly coconuttiness.  Is that even a word?

Try it and let me know what you think. A Sursee Side dish that is delish.

Everybody Live :: Or how are you doing with your 2015 Goals?

Living well

Around here I have been doing some living.  I hope you have, too. It is already February and hopefully you haven’t forgotten your goals or dreams for 2015.  I feel like I have been battling one of my goals all last month.  The goal? To write on this here blog twice a week.  Well, I have not done that so much. So should I just give up the goal?

No, I will not.  And I won’t adjust my goal. I will just remember that Living is more important than blogging.  Or keeping up with my goal sheet.  Or my to-dos.

I have been living around here.  I have had college kids home.  Had a trip to halfway across the world.  Have had my mentoring gals over.  Have had one of my guys home for a week.  I have been decluttering and putting up Christmas and organizing and crafting and reading and exercising and finding a new doctor and trying new recipes.  I have been getting close to conquering my first pull-up  Yes, I have been living.  And I realized that I want to live before I blog.  Because if I am not living, there is nothing about which to blog.

Living well with yummy food

A simple lunch I ate in Bandung.

I want to ask you, are you living? Are you listening to what God is calling you to do and doing it before you do your to-do list? Hope so.  That is how we we will see the Sursees He has for us.  That is how we will truly live.  Join me?  Let’s write and talk about the Sursees of our living fully with God.  Would you share with us all what you are doing to live in the comments below?    I would love to hear.  xoxo

Saturday Sursee :: Welcome, 2015. Welcome, Chronological Bible

Chronological Bible 2015

Hello there!  What have you been doing these past few weeks?

I have been living life.  Had all the guys home and now, they are slowly leaving, going back to rich, full lives which makes me so happy.  I stayed up too late, ate too much, and laughed a bunch. Gave lots of head tickles and rubs.  Washed loads of laundry.  Cooked skillets and pots full of food. Baked and ate way too many cookies.  But, I was present.  In the moments. Not missing anything that the Lord was doing around me.  I did enjoy the little blog break.   I pictured you, friend, also living life with no time to read the ponderings of Sursee Gal.

Now, it is time to move on into 2015.

I have to start off the year with a reminder  about The Chronological Bible.  Please read about it here if you are unfamiliar with it. Join me this year as I start over reading through the Old Testament and New Testament in a year.  It would be such fun to know you were reading along with me.  Let me know in the comments below if you are joining us.

It really does help to know that others are reading through with you.  I have a few friends that text me favorite verses or things they are learning.  A little camaraderie is nice.

One thing I did new this past year was buy a pretty journal to go along with my reading.  I talked about the journal here. It helps me to stay focused and remember later in the day what I read.  I tend to forget. Do you?  I think physically writing it down- the verse that stuck out, the truth that encouraged- physically putting it on paper is good for the soul.

So for today’s Sursee, explore the Chronological Bible and consider joining us.  I think you will enjoy seeing how God has written His story of love and redemption that starts with a wedding and ends with a wedding.  It is not too late and it won’t be the same without you.

The Chronological Bible and Advent

Chronological Bible and Advent 2

Hey y’all,

I have so been enjoying my Chronological Bible reading in light of Advent and preparing for the birth of Jesus.  Which made me think of Jan 1, 2015.  Which made me think of starting the reading all over again.  Which made me think of you, dear reader, and how I want you to join me in this journey come 2015.  But first, back to the Advent/Chronological Bible connection.

I love how I see little Sursees all through the readings.  Like today, in Romans 8:26, I was reminded how the Holy Spirit is a gift to me.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses.  We do npt know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

What a gift!

And earlier in Romans 8:18, I am reminded that,

our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Joy to the World!  The Lord has come! is what my heart sang as I read this passage.  I love how when I prepare my heart for the Christmas season, He shows Himself to me in new ways, reminding me this world is not all there is.

And when I read this:

If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 8:9

I am thankful for the baby Jesus who came into the world to grow up and then die and save us from our sins. Awesome reading during Christmas.  Reminds me why the baby Jesus is so amazing.

What are you doing for Advent to prepare your heart? To slow down and savor? Do tell.

Oh, and do you want to join me this next year and read through the Chronological Bible?  Get yours now and be ready when the calendar turns. A real Sursee to give yourself this December.
