Radiant Orchid. Be the Word.

Radiant OrchidRadiant Orchid is the Pantone color of the Year for 2014.  Listen to what they say about this color:

“Expressive, exotic Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and warmth”

                                                  “a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple”

“An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

Every year Pantone picks the Color for the Year, and I love seeing what it is.  Last year it was….

Before that, it was Tangerine Tango and  before that-Honeysuckle and then-Turquoise-all such yummy shades.

Here is what Pantone says about how they choose the color each year:

The color of the year selection requires careful consideration and, to arrive at the selection, Pantone quite literally combs the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.

OK, so that is the job that I want!  Combing the world for the perfect color.  Traveling and seeing what is going to be the influential shade.  Talking, observing, dreaming about what color will inspire millions….  How fun is that?  Sign me up, today.

So what should you expect this year?  Radiant Orchid will be on the fashion runway and on your jewelry.  Your nails and lips will reflect its luxurious sheen.  Clothing and pillows and accent pieces will all be donning this loverly color.  Here is an example:

Radiant Orchid Converse Tennis Shoes.  Wowzah!

Saw these back in December when I first read about the Pantone Color and had to have these puppies.  The Bear bought them for me for Christmas and they make me HaPpY when I put them on in the morning.  Happy Feet is good.

So what else does this mean for us?  I say enjoy this color pop!  Find a way to use Radiant Orchid and tell me how you pulled it in or put it on.

The other thing I have been thinking about is the actual word Radiant – love this word!  I am thinking we need to be the word.  Live this word.  If I hadn’t already picked my word for 2014, this would be it.

RADIANT. Captivating.  Confident.  Charming. Creative.  Original.  Are not those all words we would like used to describe us?

How do we do this?  I think it starts with our minds and what we think about.  God’s word and His ways.  Radiant.

It is what we listen to- read-watch on TV.  You know.  All that stuff.  If we want to be Radiant, we have to ingest it.  Think about Moses in the Old Testament.  It says that his face shone after spending time with God:

It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.  Exodus 34:29

And if you will permit me, I think the Lord still wants His light to shine in us and make us radiant -as daughters of the King.  It says here in II Corinthians 4:5,6:

For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake.  For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

When we belong to Him, we are filled with His light and shine His glory on others.  Our Radiance comes from His Holy Spirit living in us.  Not from us. From Him.  And spending time with Him.

So let’s put our Radiant Orchid on the outside and the Radiant Light of His spirit on the inside and  go color our world. Enjoy this SURSEE of a color inside and out.
