One Way to Organize Your Life :: Living in Chunks of Time

Living in chunks of time is something I have been thinking about lately. Since hitting the downhill side of fifty, I am trying to think more in chunks instead of spans. I am sensing more of my mortality.

For example- before I would think about living in our house for a lifetime.  Now, I am thinking could we move and try living in an urban apartment for a chunk of time, say, two or three years? Then try another house?

If I have a hobby, instead of thinking that I have to commit for years, could I try the project or craft for six weeks, then reconsider?  Maybe even a month.  Then reevaluate.

I am chunking it in my exercise plan which includes lifting weights.  Can I map the plan out to the end of the month, a doable chunk, instead of picturing myself in the gym for hours and days and weeks?

Yes. Chunks work better for me here as I can see myself with victory in smaller increments.

This also makes sense when I remember how God calls us to live in the now, with the manna He gives for the moment, not worrying about the future.

Trusting Him.

Here is the Word for you today...

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;  and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 3Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:25-34

I am not saying to never plan, but maybe, can we plan in smaller chunks?

As we live and breathe into the chunks of time, we trust that He is in control and will give us what we need, when we need it. No fretful worrying , just faithful walking in the days He has given us, a little bit at a time.

What do you think about living in chunks?  Maybe you already do this.  Do tell in the comments.
