Practicing Hospitality Courageously

Courageous Hospitality.  I recently read this article by Matt Chandler and y'all, this is good stuff. One of my take aways is that evangelism is going to look like practicing hospitality. In the article, Chandler exhorts us to invite over those who are not in our circles. Invite new people.  The ones we don't know or think like or maybe understand. He says, "we love the outsider because we were the outsider."As we invite people into conversations and listen and get to know people, great things happen.  Sharing a meal, talking over the bread and veggies and cheeses and meats and fish, we glean information about a neighbor or co-worker or friend from the past.  And we share our story.  We share how our story intersects with God's story. And yes, it feels scary. It does feel scary to have people over who are not our besties.  I was challenged by this article to invite over more than just the folks I already know or feel comfortable with.  I find that when I do that, opportunities come up for me to share about what God is doing.  Questions are asked.  Life is shared and acquaintances become friends. So the Sursee for today is to share a meal with those outside your circle.   Invite new people over this week, this month, this summer.  Who could you have over?Ask the Lord to give you courage for this kind of hospitality and then spread the table with good food, ready yourself for the adventure and wait to see what He does.  Oh, and let me hear how it goes.
